When this was filmed in 1979 all the young people were either growing their hair & wearing silly Disco outfits or were Punk rockers getting mohawks & wearing leather jackets. Joy Division rebelled against fashion trends & got "military style" haircuts & dressed like proper young men with dress shirts & ties.
Some things you never grow out of. ( From the late Seventies ) they have been my favourite band….bar NONE!

What I really like about Joy Division is that their live versions of these songs sound better way better than the studio versions.
I remember when this was first broadcast. Due to school schedules I couldn't watch it live, but I convinced the tech in the school AV department to videotape it, so me and a couple of friends could watch it. We were stunned.
this is a great performance of a great song. "Something Else" was a good show, too, if I remember. Shame about the audience, too immobilised by teenage self-consciousness to dancedancedance
